Newport Beach, California-based SRS Labs Inc has won Packard Bell Electronics Inc as a licensee for its three-dimensional sound technology. For SRS, this is the first time the company has licensed its technology to a computer manufacturer. Packard Bell will incorporate SRS’s know-how into its line of multimedia personal computers. SRS Labs’s Sound Retrieval System restores audio realism lost by traditional stereo by producing a three-dimensional sound image from any audio source with two ordinary loudspeakers. It retrieves audio cues that enable the human ear to determine from what direction a sound appears to come. By restoring these signals, the system expands the sound field and immerses the listener in three-dimensional sound.
