PACIFIC TELESIS IN AGREEMENT TO BUY CELLULAR INTERESTS FOR $316m

The PacTel Personal Communications unit of Pacific Telesis Corp, already a major player in cellular mobile phones through its Communications Industries acquisition, has agreed to pay a total of $316m for cellular interests in four Michigan cities – Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids and Lansing, and in Toledo, Ohio. Sellers are Graphic Scanning Corp, Washington Post Co, Western Union Corp and Rapid-American Corp. Graphic Scanning, Teaneck, New Jersey, looks for $77.2m from its share of the deal.
