Evidently a keen student of IBM’s campaigns to claim ownership of words and numbers, Microsoft Corp, reports Newsbytes, is challenging the right of a tiny Bell, California company with one application, for paint and coating manufacturers, to call itself Pacific Micro Software Engineering: in a challenge reminiscent of the complaint to the inn-sign painter that he should left more space between The Pig and And and And and Whistle, Microsoft attorney Paul Vapnek says We have great concerns that if the word microsoftware becomes commonly accepted, it will diminish the distinction of Microsoft’s trademark, and in the case of Pacific, micro and software are too close.
