Pacific Bell Inc’s Data Communications Group in San Francisco has announced Media Park, which it describes as a virtual production studio. In a six-month trial, Media Park will provide services for California’s film, advertising and electronic media industries over Pacific Bell’s business lines. Users will be able to access information from their desktop personal computers. Among the services available are the Kodak Picture Exchange, a database containing more than 100,000 still images; The AGORA Digital Marketplace which contains listings of media specialists; the Eastman Exchange production location database with over 5,000 photographs of production locations around the world; a video clip and stock footage database; and a music and sound effects database. Media Park can be accessed via three data communications services: Integrated Services Digital Network at 128Kbps, High Capacity Digital Network at 1.544Mbps or Asynchronous Transfer Mode at 45Mbps. Service providers will also offer video post-production, file conversion and compression, on-line storage and retrieval, and other production resources, says the Pacific Telesis Group Inc subsidiary.
