Oxford Brookes University secures online learning with Juniper Networks

Product performance and technical leadership noted as key Factors in decision.

By Duncan Macrae

Oxford Brookes University has deployed a new campus network infrastructure supplied by Juniper Networks.

The new network infrastructure will enable Oxford Brookes to securely deliver advanced next-generation student services and online learning, as well as other corporate applications and services, to its students and staff across campus as well as its halls of residence.

The need to run these next-generation services over the University’s local area network (LAN), coupled with personal access broadband and mobile Internet with increased video traffic driven by student demand, meant a further upgrade of existing equipment was not viable.

Instead, the University embarked on its most comprehensive network deployment in eight years and selected Juniper Networks solutions based on the value of a single operating system running across platforms, high-performance security capabilities and technical innovation for the future.

Robin Breathe, CTO, Oxford Brookes University, said: "Providing the next-generation services expected by our students for learning and leisure would have been a huge drain on our future network resources. Now, thanks to our partnership with Juniper Networks, we not only know that our new campus infrastructure is secure and scalable, but we have a roadmap in product innovation and capabilities that will help us meet future network demands."

Mark Quartermaine, area VP, UK and Ireland, Juniper Networks, added: "Unprecedented student demand for mobile Internet and broadband creates unique security implications for research and education organisations on the front line of consumer and enterprise network access. Juniper’s superior networking platforms provide unparalleled security, bandwidth and reliability, enabling Oxford Brookes University to deliver advanced educational tools and services to meet the future demands of students."
