Overland Data Inc has launched the LibraryXpress LXG, the second phase of its Digital Linear Tape library offerings (CI No 2,821). Phase one was the base model that takes up to 10 DLT cartridges, each storing 20Gb or 40Gb compressed. The LXG is a global control unit that enables up to nine base modules to be stacked, building up to 3.6Tb of storage, controlled by the host software as one single storage system. It works with most major back-up software. In January Overland will launch phase three, a capacity module carousel that holds up to 25 cartridges. Phase four will be a performance module with up to five drives. All modules stack on top of each other; LibraryXpress LXG will ship worldwide this week at $4,800.
