Oblix Inc has taken its next major step towards the big leagues with the announcement Wednesday that industry veteran Gordon Eubanks, the long-time chief executive officer at Symantec Corp, has agreed to become its next CEO. The news brings immediate visibility to low-profile Oblix, the three-year-old Mountain View, California-based provider of corporate services automation software. Eubanks, who has spent 15 years at the helm of Symantec, announced in January that he would be leaving the utilities software house and has since been heading the search for his successor.

That search is ongoing, however, and Eubanks has agreed to stay put at Symantec until the job is filled. Oblix isn’t willing to speculate on when that will happen, but the company is excited about the experience Eubanks brings, especially as it is hitting the rapid growth mode according to VP of marketing Robert Drescher. Drescher says that Oblix has been involved in talks with Eubanks for several months and that he is excited about the company’s potential given the growing importance of directory software. Oblix’ current president and CEO Sandeep Johri will stay on as chairman of the company and plans to remain active in strategic planning.
