The Beaverton, Oregon-based Linux advocacy and standards development group has added the open source Open POSIX Test Suite (OPTS) to its OSDL Scalable Test Platform (STP) with the help of Paris, France-based Bull, which led the integration effort.

The OPTS is designed to make it easier to port applications from other POSIX-compliant operating systems, such as the AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris variants of Unix, to Linux. POSIX is an IEEE standard defined to enable application portability between Unix variants.

OPTS is freely available through a remote web interface to OSDL’s lab facilities to test Linux kernel builds and can also be downloaded, along with STP, under the GPL license.
