OSAKA MEDIA PORT HAS APPLIED FOR PERMISSION TO RUN LEASED LINE SERVICE IN OSAKA AREA

By CBR Staff Writer

Osaka Media Port, a local telephone company in Japan’s second city, has applied to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications for permission to run a leased line service in the Osaka area, with a view subsequently to joining up with Tokyo Communications Network, the local telephone service subsidiary of Tokyo Electric Power to offer a Tokyo-Osaka leased line service without using NTT’s lines; it is hoping to offer three services – general leased lines, high-speed digital leased lines, and video transmission services – undercutting rates charged by NTT by 20%.
