ORWELLIAN CORPORATE CULTURE THREATENS WAR AT EDS

By CBR Staff Writer

Electronic Data Systems Corp has gained a reputation for treating its staff somewhat insensitively over the years, issuing blunt edicts forbidding men to have beards, women to wear trousers, anyone to drink at lunchtime, etc, etc. The latest, a memo to employees, leaked to the UK’s Computer Weekly, reads as follows; We need to hear from you. If you know of a position which can be eliminated, a contractor who can be replaced by an EDS employee or an open job that need not be filled, speak up. You need to be involved in slimming the organization, because it’s your own job you’re preserving. Sounds to us like an invitation for open warfare.
