The Orbitel Mobile Communications Ltd joint venture between Racal Electronics Plc and Plessey Co Plc, with its French partner Matra SA, are beneficiaries of equipment contracts following the award to the Telettra Espana SA unit of Fiat SpA’s Telettra unit, and L M Ericsson’s Intesa SA of the pact to build the digital cellular telephone system for the city of Barcelona. The value of the order for a 10,000 line system, awarded by Telefonica de Espana SA, was not disclosed. Orbitel and Matra are also benficiaries of a contract for a 40,000-line digital cellular system for Italy, awarded by SIP, to go into service by the middle of 1991.
