ORACLE’s PARALLEL ADDITIONS “PUSH IT AHEAD OF INFORMIX AND SYBASE”

By CBR Staff Writer

Although the ‘update-anywhere’ capability of Oracle Corp’s Symmetric Replication System for Oracle7 7.1 ‘Parallel Everything’ database will not be around until the first quarter of next year, Omri Serlin’s FT Systems notes that the Parallel Data Query and other parallel additions that are available from this month already shoot Oracle ahead of its rivals, Sybase Inc and Informix Software Inc. Sybase is currently still beta-testing its Navigation Server with AT&T Global Information Solutions and is having some well-publicised teething troubles, while Informix’s OnLine Dynamic Server 8.0 is not due out until the middle of 1995. The newsletter reports that Sybase and Informix’s current ‘hot site’ replication is only a subset of the replication technology Oracle is already able to offer.
