Oracle wraps up Retek

Oracle wasted no time in completing its purchase of retail software market Retek saying it now controls enough Retek shares (94%) to immediately seal the $670m deal.

By CBR Staff Writer

Oracle is setting up a separate Retail Global Business Unit which will market Retek’s retail solutions alongside its business applications Suite, 10g database and application server, and collaboration server products.

Both Oracle and Retek have enjoyed a close partnership since Retek was founded in 1986. Retek says around 80% of its retail application customers run on the Oracle database.

Its not yet clear if Oracle plans to support Retek on broader database and application server platforms in the long-term.

Oracle first tabled its bid for Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Retek in March and won a bidding war that ensued with German business applications rival SAP.
