Oracle Corp was the top vendor in the global database market in 1996 with 30% market share, according to a Dataquest Inc study, with IBM Corp in second place with a 26% share, followed by Informix Corp, whose business just plunged into a black hole, holding out hope for the also-rans and minnows. The worldwide database market grew 15% in 1996 to reach $5.7bn, it reckons.
