Oracle claims that in the CRM space, Siebel, which it acquired in 2005, is the market leader in on-premise and on demand versions, with 4.6 million users, while its closest competitor Salesforce.com claims nearly a million users.
According to Oracle, the application would help salespeople make their sales using features such as the ability to create and join groups such as Facebook. It also includes a library containing sales material, which can be viewed and edited as well as integrate with LinkedIn contact list. It connects data about sales orders from internal systems with external information to help predict sales opportunities.
As part of its ‘social’ move, Siebel would include application programming interfaces to allow partners to build ancillary applications. This new version would be the 15th version of the application. The previous version was released in June 2007.
Earlier this week, Oracle collaborated with Research In Motion to provide customers with secure mobile CRM functionality for the BlackBerry platform.
