In an effort to promote its local network-based products for the Macintosh, Oracle Corp has signed a development and co-marketing agreement with Apple Computer Inc. Under the agreement, Oracle will add 16 additional products to its Macintosh-based offerings over the next two years. Apple’s reason for signing is being interpreted as an attempt to improve the Macintosh’s cross-environment capabilities in a client-server networking environment. To this end, Oracle will add the AppleTalk Data Stream Protocol – ADSP – to the Oracle Server for OS/2 and Oracle Server for NetWare 386 products. Oracle’s new products will also support Apple’s System 7 Mac and A/UX Unix operating systems, as well as Apple’s future product directions for the PowerOpen and PowerPC RISC-based operating systems and technologies. The two companies will also collaborate on sales and marketing activities across the Atlantic waters for Oracle’s Macintosh-based products.
