By CBR Staff Writer

Oracle Corp is happily counting its oil-gotten gains in Belmont, California: the company has a worldwide volume purchase agreement with Shell International Petroleum BV for its eponymous relational database management system, initially for use on DEC VAX machines but likely to go onto IBM hardware too; and British Petroleum Plc has chosen Oracle for the development of new applications to run on VAX systems with a contract for an initial 30 licences that could lead to Oracle being used on hundreds of VAXen in over 50 countries.
