ORACLE HAS DISCOVERER 3.0 FOR SIMPLE DATABASE ORGANIZATION

By CBR Staff Writer

Oracle Corp says the release of its new query and reporting tool will enable users to have access to a simple yet effective way of organizing database information. The company says Discoverer 3.0 was designed and developed in response to user requests, and attention was paid to enabling new users to pick it up quickly and optimize end-user productivity and resources. Discoverer is said to simplify the process of generating charts, querying data and posting reports on corporate intranets or the Web. It runs under Windows95 or NT, and users can access charting and reporting functions from the same interface, with a drill-down capability which enables easy navigation of complex systems. Discoverer 3.0’s Predictive Query Governor function estimates how long a query will take, enabling the user to decide whether to continue with the query or not, thus reducing the number of potentially lengthy searches that can slow the system down. A Client Cache manages extracted data on a local basis, so that the user need return to the database only when additional information is required, reducing response time. The Web publishing means final reports can be published from Discoverer on to the Web. Discoverer 3.0 is available now in two editions. Discoverer User edition costs $1,000 per user and the Administration edition is $2,000.
