Oracle Corp has pledged its support for Sequent Computer System Inc’s high-end multiprocessing hardware servers, Non Uniform Memory Access Q systems, following the Santa Cruz Operation Inc’s decision that the system requirements were too high-end and specialized (CI No 3015). The Intel-based NUMA architecture will support Oracle’s Universal server, thin clients and Network Computing Architecture. Existing Oracle customers using Sequent’s 5000 servers will not have to change their application software code to run on the new systems, said the company. Oracle has been working with Sequent for 11 years, and believes the combination of its Universal Server and Sequent’s NUMA Q will deliver new levels of performance for our customers’ online transaction processing, data warehousing and electronic commerce systems, said the company.
