The hard part is knowing where to start, but Oracle Corp’s Applications Services chief, Robert Shaw, was in ebullient mood when he spoke to Reuters, saying that he sees no slowdown on the horizon in the unit’s tremendous revenue growth – revenue grew 103% for the applications unit in Oracle’s most recent quarter from the year earlier period – hitting $168m, and has grown by about 100% year-over-year for six out of the seven past quar ters. Shaw said because of the phenomenal growth – it added 125 customers in the third quarter alone and plans to expand the unit’s staff by 50% in the near future from 6,000 people currently. Near-term goals are to expand in the client-server market by building on Oracle’s other product offerings and by marketing an Internet strategy; in the past three months the unit added Internet- enabled features across the product line. Also in the plan are versions in more languages and more currencies.
