Oracle wants to virtualise & automate your network

Software vendor seeks to streamline service and reduce maintenance.

By Jimmy Nicholls

Oracle is capitalising on demand for streamlined networks, high-definition services and virtualised assets with the launch of its Evolved Communications Appliance Server.

The product is said to offer users the chance to improve the efficiency of their networks even in places where coverage is poor, as well as design upgrades in a drag-and-drop interface without the need for coding or a vendor’s involvement.

Steve Aulds, vice president of products, Oracle Communications: "Oracle Communications Evolved Communications Application Server brings the speed of innovation with the low cost profile typically seen in IT initiatives, yet it can deliver the performance of a communication service provider network appliance.

"This is the ideal complement to our converged application server, API [application programming interface] exposure platform, and session delivery infrastructure which communication service providers around the world have embraced for nearly a decade."

In addition to the above the server will also enable network function virtualisation and automated testing, staging and production environments.

"The rapid growth of 4G LTE in mobile networks is exposing a real need for delivery of IMS-driven services," said Diane Myers, research director at Infonetics Research.

"Oracle Communications Evolved Communications Application Server is a good fit for voice over LTE and voice over Wi-Fi, and because of its design, it aligns nicely with the communication service provider’s goal of increased service agility."
