Oracle has promoted company’s executive vice president Thomas Kurian as the new president of product development.

This is the first major change in Oracle, after company founder Larry Ellison stepped down from the CEO position after 35 years to take up the role of executive chairman of the company.

He was jointly replaced by Safra Catz and Mark Hurd.

Bloomberg cited sources familiar with the matter as saying that the announcement was made internally on Thursday, but the information was not made public.

However, Oracle’s executive biography page shows the update and also highlights Kurian’s current responsibilities which includes leading software development and transitioning the Oracle’s technology to Oracle Cloud.

Kurian, boasting a BA in electrical engineering from Princeton University and having been with the company since 1996, has previously handled product management and development positions in the company.

Under his leadership, the Oracle Fusion Middleware family of products business became the fastest-growing business of the company and the industry’s leading middleware product suite.
