Oracle has introduced JDeveloper 11g Release 2, an open and integrated tool for Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE), SOA and Web 2.0 application development.

The company said the new offering delivers an improved Integrated Development Environment (IDE), including support for new technologies and standards, and updates to the company’s Application Development Framework (ADF) 11g.

The offering is a part of Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g, which is a free integrated development environment that simplifies the development of Java-based SOA apps and user interfaces with support for the full development life cycle.

In addition, the JDeveloper 11g Release 2 delivers performance and usability improvements, including: support for new JavaServer Faces 2.0 and Facelets standards; updated ADF JavaServer Faces Rich Client Components; infrastructure changes to facilitate OSGi tooling; and improved support for emerging technologies.

Oracle chief architect and senior vice-president Ted Farrell said Web application and Java developers continue to seek new advancements in standards and easy-to-use tools.

"Oracle JDeveloper 11g Release 2 delivers capabilities that allow developers to achieve productivity boost and are essential to enable the creation of the immersive and vibrant Web applications," Farrell said.
