Oracle updates Enterprise Manager 12c

The new application helps software development and Quality Assurance organisations enhance testing efficiency

By CBR Staff Writer

Oracle has introduced a new testing-as-a-service application, part of Enterprise Manager 12c, which enables customers and partners to deploy public or private testing clouds.

The new application claims to offer improved efficiency and productivity of software development and Quality Assurance (QA) organisations by delivering higher quality applications, while improving testing efficiency and reducing the duration of testing projects.

The Testing-as-a-Service application helps organisations to reduce hardware, power and cooling costs required to support testing and staff time spent on testing projects, Oracle said.

The new update to Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c will allow developers to focus on actual testing rather on peripheral activities that accompany the testing process. the company added.

It also offers test lab management, automatic deployment of complex multi-tier applications, rich application performance monitoring, test data management and chargeback in a unified workflow.

Features of the new application include a self-service portal for executing application load tests that enables Development and QA professionals to create, manage and execute tests.

The new application also includes an automation of test processes from provisioning of multi-tier applications to test tools and test scripts that allow users to decrease the time needed to setup a test environment.

It also enables sharing of cloud hardware resource pools with complete isolation to ensure security, enabling users to maximise hardware utilisation while abiding by security policies.

The integrated application monitoring and diagnostics for middle tier and data tier will detect the bottlenecks for the application under test, reducing test cycles without compromising application quality and improving overall organisational efficiency.

Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c also provides resource metering and chargeback for tests that require to be charged to cost centres, while the metering capabilities allow for tracking and charging for compute resources used.

Oracle Product Development senior vice president Leng Tan said: "The Oracle Enterprise Manager software testing cloud capability can transform QA organizations by allowing testers to focus on their main task of designing and executing test cases, to ensure that the application under test meets its quality goals, rather than spending valuable time on non-test related activities."
