Optus is hoping to launch this new service at the end of August. This will allow Australians to send and receive video images and graphics. Working on the success of SMS, Optus is hoping MMS will prove equally if not more popular, helping to boost those all-important ARPU figures.

MMS also serves as a good introduction to 3G services. MMS has so far been gaining in popularity across the world. It has taken off in Japan and has been launched in the UK and Germany. It is only a matter of time until MMS becomes the norm.
