Optical Data Inc, Beaverton, Oregon on Friday revealed its involvement in the development of Tandy Corp’s Thor-CD erasable optical disk technology, saying that the relationship will lead to the commercial exploitation of its patents and technology for optical disk media: the company says it has a unique, patented, dye polymer coating for optical disks, which forms bump-like deformations when exposed to a laser beam, and claims that the mark or bump does not deteriorate with repeated use, and can be erased and rewritten when exposed to a laser beam of another wavelength; Philips & DuPont Optical Ltd has already taken a licence on the company’s dye polymer technology.
