Israeli multimedia software house Optibase Ltd will be unveiling the roadmap to its Media Gateway video networking platform at the Telecom ’99 show in Geneva next month. Herzliya-based Optibase provides the enabling technologies that make it possible for customers in telecoms, cable and internet service provision to transmit video over their networks. Yaniv Garty, its VP of marketing and development, said the company is currently developing a large-scale media streaming appliance performing compression and transcoding to the MPEG-1, -2 and -4 standards, as well as Real G2 and Microsoft WMT.

This product, called the Media Gateway, will not be ready for another 18 months, but company sources say that, before then, Optibase will be launching an intermediate product with some of the Gateway’s planned functionality, aimed at the corporate rather than public networking market. Garty declined to comment on that hypothesis, however.
