Optibase Inc and Motorola Inc are to co-operate in the multimedia communications market with Optibase becoming an alpha site customer for the semiconductors being developed as part of the Motorola-British Telecommunictions Plc Qorus Multimedia Communications Chip Set Program. Optibase will contribute personal computer digital video and audio processing knowledge. The Qorus system is being jointly developed by Motorola and British Telecom in a partnership announced in August 1992. Qorus will be applied by Optibase to its product developments to produce low cost products for applications such as desktop video telephony, video conferencing and networked audio and video databases. Qorus will be capable of real-time capture and play-back of high quality colour images compatible with the ITU-T H.320, the ISO JPEG and ISO MPEG standards ensuring open vendor communications.
