Aria’s Gateway product is a messaging management system designed to support high volumes of SMS traffic and its main deployment is in Central and South America.

Opera managing director, Gary Corbett, said that media organizations would no longer have to enter local agreements with content suppliers, infrastructure and technology providers and website designers. The acquisition of Aria meant that Opera could fulfill all these requirements on an international basis.

Opera set up Aria in 2003 as a joint venture with internet consultancy Diva Consulting. The company will be renamed Opera Telecom Technologies Ltd.

Earlier this week, Opera bought control of MMS technology specialist Brainstorm Ltd for an undisclosed sum to enhance its position in the mobile services business.
