Intellectual property indemnification for open source software has become a hot topic over the past three years since SCO Group Inc launched its claims that Linux contained its copyrighted material.
Many individual projects have provided their own indemnification, while a whole new service opportunity was created for the likes of Open Source Risk Management Inc and Black Duck Software Inc.
Broomfield, Colorado-based OpenLogic is bringing the two together to provide indemnification for intellectual property infringements, including defense of claims, repair and replacement, and up to four times the value of the contract.
OpenLogic already provides support and services for the library of open source software components via OpenLogic Enterprise, which enables users to build their own open source stacks by picking and choosing components from the library.
The library includes Apache web server, Eclipse toolset, JBoss application server, and the MySQL database, which recent additions to version 4.0, launched in July, included the Apache Geronimo, Axis, and POI projects, as well as JLDAP.
