Openexchange launches Red Hat support and migration tool

Open source collaboration software vendor Openexchange Inc has released the first version of its Open-Xchange product for Red Hat Inc's Enterprise Linux and launched a new migration tool to move users from the discontinued SUSE Linux Openexchange.

By CBR Staff Writer

Tarrytown, New York-based Openexchange launched version 5 of its Open-Xchange Server email, calendar, and document-management technology for Red Hat’s Enterprise Linux, following up on a reseller and partner agreement the two companies struck in July.

Openexchange’s technology had previously only been available for Novell Inc’s SUSE Linux Enterprise Server product, and was the collaboration platform for the former SUSE Linux Openexchange product.

That product was discontinued in late 2004 as part of deal that saw Openexchange establish its independence from Novell SUSE, with which it previously had an exclusive OEM agreement.

Openexchange maintains a reseller and partner agreement with Novell, and its new migration tool is designed to move users of SUSE Linux Openexchange to Open-Xchange 5 on either SUSE Linux Enterprise Server or Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

The SLOX2Oxtender tool is designed to automatically migrate users, groups, aliases, resources, email, and mail folders from the older product to Open-Xchange Server 5 running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, and will be available in September.

Meanwhile, Openexchange has also boosted its management team with the appointment of Oliver Nachtrab as vice president of business development and marketing. Nachtrab was previously the director of product management for Novell’s SUSE Linux business.
