The final programme details for December’s Open Systems for Europe conference, which is being organised by Unicom Ltd of Uxbridge, Middlesex, and presented in collaboration with our sister paper, the weekly Unigram-X, has now been settled. The three-day seminar will cover technical issues on the first day, with the keynote speech presented by Commission of the European Communities Director of Informatics Walter de Backer, and others as detailed in CI No 1,039 with the addition of Mike Lambert from X/Open Group Ltd, Henning Oldenburg from the Open Software Foundation and Andrew Twigger from Unisoft. Day Two will focus on strategic and policy issues, with speakers from Relational Technology Inc, Olivetti & Co, CAP Group, British Coal, ICL John Dickson, chief operating executive, Groupe Bull and IBM UK; the final day includes practice and implementation sessions, with procurement policies discussed by the UK Central Computer Telecommunications Agency, the LAMSAC body for computing in local government, the National Health Service, the Automobile Association and Lloyd’s Insurance Brokers Committee, and open system user case studies will be discussed by Dr Pamela Gray of Sphinx Ltd. Olivetti’s speaker is still to be announced, after Vittorio Cassoni cried off. The conference runs from Tuesday December 6 to Thursday December 8 at the Mount Royal Hotel at London’s Marble Arch.
