The Eclipse Foundation has created a Test and Performance Tools Platform Top Level Project to deliver a framework and services for testing and performance.
Due to be announced at next month’s LinuxWorld in San Francisco, California, the platform includes data collection services and user interfaces for tracing, test case execution, logging and statistical behavior.
In a statement, Intel said the planned infrastructure and tools would provide significant capabilities and benefits to Eclipse and help growth of the Eclipse ecosystem.
Scapa chief executive Mike Norman said Intel’s involvement, with that of others, would ensure wider adoption of the Hyades Core Platform.
The Test and Performance Tools Platform Top Level Project extends Eclipse’s Hyades project, formed in 2002 with backing from IBM, Rational Software, Parasoft, Scapa Technologies and Telelogic.
Hyades will continue as the Core Platform, led by Intel, but three areas have been identified for activity under the Test and Performance Tools Platform Top Level Project. These areas are Hyades Testing, Hyades Tracing and Profiling, and Hyades Monitoring.
Last week, IBM – already building the WebSphere development environment on Eclipse – announced Rational’s Automated Quality Software (AQS) tools would be standardized on Hyades.
In using Hyades, Rational hopes to drive interoperability with other vendors’ testing and management tools, enabling artifacts to be traced through different products. By using Hyades as a common platform, IBM/Rational is also simplifying integration between Rational’s AQS tools and those from third parties.
