Even as the Open Software Foundation was writing to its members assuring them that it was not under investigation by the US Federal Trade Commission for possible anticompetitive practices, the New York Times was yesterday reporting that an investigation was indeed under way, and quoting industry executives: the staff of our sister paper were feeling very pleased with themselves because early editions of the Times noted that the investigation was first reported last month in Unigram.X; the paper also quoted the Trade Commission saying that it does not comment on whether it is conducting an investigation, so unless the Commission turns something up, it will remain in the dark.
