Open Market Inc, the Boston, Massachusetts-based Internet commerce software company, has bought Waypoint Software Corp from just down the road in Cambridge for $12m cash and shares. Waypoint brings a front office industrial-strength business-to- business catalogue development tool to add to Open Market’s flagship OM-Transact back office software suite. It will be Open Market’s first front office software product, and its first acquisition. Until now, the company has relied on its 15 independent software vendor partners to provide such software. The Waypoint team of less than ten will all be moving into town following the completion of the acquisition, anticipated this quarter.
