OPEN MARKET GETS SHOT IN THE ARM WITH AOL DEAL

By CBR Staff Writer

Internet commerce software vendor Open Market Inc got a much- needed boost yesterday with the announcement of a licensing deal with America Online Inc. AOL has taken the company’s flagship Transact software to provide electronic commerce capabilities to two areas of AOL content, the Classifieds and Love@AOL. That capability has not been announced by AOL yet, so it was reluctant to give any details about the agreement. Last week Burlington, Massachusetts-based Open Market stunned investors with a dire third quarter profit warning that sent it shares down 28% at the close on the day (10/07/98). Yesterday’s news took them back past that level and a bit more, closing up $1.625, or 30.2% at $7.00.
