Boston, Massachusetts-based Distributed Computing Environment house Open Environment Corp, which now positions itself as a three-tier application development outfit, is preparing version 3.0 of its Entera development environment for Unix Expo later this month in New York, along with WorkBench for Windows, which it says will bring three-tiered application development to desktops. Meantime the company has acquired Australian development management tool company Jarrah Technologies Pty Ltd in a share exchange that values Jarrah at $7.2m. Jarrah, which will become the company’s Open Environment Australia Pty Ltd subsidiary, created the repository-based TeamWindows development tool which is resold by Gupta Technologies Inc as part of its SQL Windows toolset. Jarrah has 60 employees: founder and chief executive Philip Copeland becomes the subsidiary’s chief technical officer and David Miller remains managing director.
