Sony is planning to update only Xperia Z series with Android 5.0 Lollipop, depriving all the other devices of further updates.
Answering to Xperia M2 user queries on Twitter, Sony said: "Hi. We can advise that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is going to be released for the entire Xperia Z series only, we do apologise."
According to Sony, only the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z1S, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact will get the update.
However, later on while replying to another user’s query, Sony’s Twitter handle suggested that the company might roll out the update to other Sony devices too, but did not specify the names, reported NDTV Gadget.
The company has already started rolling out the update to Xperia Z series devices from last month.
This is not the first time for the company to deprive certain devices of updates, as previously it stopped older models including Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia arc S, from Android updates beyond 4.1.
