Yahoo editor-in-chief Jai Singh has left the search engine giant, just a day after chief operating officer Henrique De Castro was fired.

Mr. Singh’s departure comes in the midst of reports of differences with CEO Marissa Mayer, and in the midst of changes being effected in Yahoo’s media unit in the wake of De Castro’s sacking.

Citing Mayer’s memo, technology website Re/code revealed that the media unit will now be headed by CMO Kathy Savitt.

"Appointing a marketing person to be in charge of editorial is probably enough of a reason for many journalists to run screaming from the building, but it’s not clear what prompted Singh’s exit," the publication added.

"In addition, Savitt has a very mixed reputation – and this is me being polite – inside Yahoo."

Mayer has been working to revitalise the Yahoo brand by improving the site’s content, bringing in veteran American journalist Katie Couric as well as adding reporters from the New York Times in a bid to improve the site’s content.
