About one in ten US adults obtain their news via micro-blogging site Twitter, new research has revealed.
The Pew Research Center report, compiled with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, also found that Twitter news users are reportedly younger, more mobile and more skilled.
About 45% of Of the users are aged between 18-29 years, while 2% are 65 or older.
The research also found that 30% of US adults get their news on Facebook, with 34% of them being 18-29 years old.
Another analysis of conversations on Twitter about major news events found that much of what is posted centres on passing along breaking news, while discussions do not trail with public opinion.
The survey also found that mobile devices have been major sources of accessing Twitter news, with 85% of them getting news on mobile devices, surpassing Facebook’s news consumers by 20%.
The report revealed that 40% of Twitter news users possess at least a bachelor’s degree, compared to 29% of the total population, along with 30% of Facebook news users.
