Mitch Kapor’s On Technology Inc in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has had to scale back its ambitions to revolutionise the way computers are used – it found the targets it had set itself were too ambitious – and its first product is a helpful little utility, but nothing revolutionary. On Location is a text retrieval package for the Apple Macintosh that searched through all the text files on the disk for a desired entry, and updates its own index on the fly. Lotus Development Corp has a product called Magellan that does the same thing under MS-DOS. On plans to bundle it with Compact Disk Read-Only memory applications.
