On-Line Software International Inc, Fort Lee, New Jersey, has acquired Software Technologies and Research Inc of Hartford, Connecticut for $3m, $2m at closing and the balance over two years. The company is a IBM CICS consultancy to the insurance industry and also sells CICS utility software, doing 80% of its $6m turnover in the past 12 months from consultancy, the balance from CICS software. The move doubles On-Line’s consultancy staff as well as adding CICS products complementary to its own. Software Tech has a combined total of 500 users for its products, with DADS, Dynamic Allocation/Deallocation System that improves CICS uptime by managing file availability being top seller. There is also the VSUM VSAM data set design and management tool, and the FileSafe recovery and journal management system for both CICS and batch applications. On-Line also gets over 100 new staff, and regional offices in Hartford and Stamford, Connecticut from the deal.
