Can Corba 3.0, the new features of which were outlined for the first time yesterday by the Object Management Group, be all that new if there’s already a book published on it? Did the author got inside information? Apparently not; OMG chairman and CEO Richard Soley said he’s heard nothing from Reaz Hoque, who wrote the Corba 3 Developer’s Guide, published recently by IDG Books, and didn’t even know the book was coming out. He’s made a pretty good job of covering Corba 2.2 said Soley, who claimed that one of the reasons for announcing Corba 3.0 at this stage was that rumors about the new specification were mounting. Although most of the technology that goes into the new version has now been completed, the specification won’t be finalized until the end of the year once everything’s been integrated together and tested. To be fair, Hoque, whose other books include Programming Web Components and Programming JavaBeans 1.1, says that it was the publisher who decided on the title, and that if they had waited until 3.0 was finalized it would have delayed publication until next year. The last chapter of the book focuses mainly on the future of Corba, he says.
