The Abbey National Building Society, a major user of Unisys 1100 mainframes, but also a substantial user of Olivetti’s Linea Uno, has gone back to Olivetti for MS-DOS terminals for its new branch office administration systems. The ?18m contract is for 3,900 new generation Olivetti Personalikes that can be upgraded to OS/2, and 750 of Olivetti’s new LSX machines, running the Italian’s proprietary MOS operating system. Starlan and Ethernet will be used within branches.
