OLIVETTI TO LAUNCH MODELS OF THE EDGE COMPUTER MACHINES AS LINEA DUO

By CBR Staff Writer

This Thursday Olivetti SpA is scheduled to launch models of the Edge Computer machines – which are Motorola 68020-compatible but much more powerful – as Linea Duo, replacing the Zilog Z8000 based Linea Uno unveiled in 1982: the new line will definitely be offered with Unix – word is that it will tend to supplant the new AT&T 3B/4000 in Olivetti’s line – and it will presumably have to offer at least an emulation for the Linea Uno operating systems if not support it native, but in the US, the Edge machines are offered with a Unix+Pick combination and it is not yet known if Olivetti will also be Pick-popping.
