In second place behind IBM for the number of IBM 370 architecture-based installations in Italy is Olivetti Computers, reports Computerwoche. According to Olivetti division leader Sergio Tantussi, who saw the Ivrea-based computer manufacturer’s sales from 370 installations grow by 12% to the equivalent of around $58m last year, there are now 39 Olivetti-installed Hitachi machiines out of a total installed base of approximately 1,200. Revenues from 370 subsystems, software and servicing rose by 25% to around $114m, but as a whole, profits have steadily decreased by 5% to 6% in the last few years, mainly as a result of IBM discounting.
