OLIVETTI SAYS THAT FAR FROM CUTTING, IT’s GROWING ITS UK THIRD PARTY MAINTENANCE ARM

By CBR Staff Writer

British Olivetti categorically denies rumours that have appeared in the press that it is to cut back on its third party maintenance organisation’s sales force; or that it is to reduce its British third party maintenance operation in any way. The division that controls the company’s third party maintenance business, British Olivetti’s Customer Support Group, has achieved compound internal growth of over 60% during the past two years. It currently has a total contract value of about UKP47.5m from deals with clients including Barclays, National Westminster, and the Stock Exchange, and has taken on 300 more people in the past year. Furthermore, despite the fact that Olivetti has been investing in the European third party maintenance market (largely through acquisition) British Olivetti says that there will be no shifting of resources away from the UK and on to the Continent. So far, the Olivetti Group has acquired 13 third party maintenance companies in Europe, including Ibimaint, Ciesse, and its 50-50 venture with Decision Data in the IBM market, Radiel and CCS, both DEC specialists, Iachello, Comtech and DDI in the telecommunications area, as well as Sixtech and Office Automation Systems.
