Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA reckons that it boosted its share of the European personal computer market by 32% in the first six months of 1994, financial daily Il Sole 24 Ore said: the company says it raised its share of the desktop market, in value terms, to 6.4% from 5.4%, and to 6% from 1.7% for notebooks; in volume terms, Olivetti’s share of the desktop market eased to 6.4% from 6.6% but revenues had benefitted from the better product mix; personal computers account for some 20% of Olivetti’s revenues and the company says these rose in the sixth months by 7% over last year; with facsimile machines and printers also doing well, turnover from product sales rose 25% in the half; it says the international personal computer price war could reduce margins by a maximum of two points from their present 20% to 23%, but it believes this could be recovered by cost-cutting and increased efficiency.
