OLIVETTI ON LOOK-OUT FOR TELECOM PARTNERS

By CBR Staff Writer

Telling the Wall Street Journal the company is looking for telecommunications partners to help build its newest arm of business, Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA said sales of personal computers rose 20% year-on-year in the first half of 1994 in value terms and the business was close to break-even in the second quarter; it said the company was producing 800,000 to 850,000 personal computers a year, close to what the company reckons is critical mass of 1m units on which it can be profitable and become a major player – the 11% share of the European market it enjoyed at peak has now slumped back to about 4%.
