Ing C Olivetti & Co Spa yesterday began a round of talks with union leaders to discuss possible job cuts: the unions say up to 2,000 jobs are at risk as the firm looks to save overheads in the face of the deepening recession, and that before agreeing to any job cuts they want a clear indication of from Olivetti of its industrial prospects and strategic policy; they reckon the new cuts will fall largely among white collar workers.
